About this newsletter

¡Alirón! is the monthly newsletter by All Iron Ventures.

We are adopting a “fresher” approach when building this VC newsletter. As opposed to the typical “self-promotion” flavor that stems from many of the newsletters VCs create, our goal is to put practical information provided by top market players at the service of entrepreneurs.

We aim to put at our readers’ disposal the know-how and savoir faire from top investors and entrepreneurs.

We encourage you to subscribe so you do not miss out on interesting stuff. Also, feel free to share any feedback with us so we can get better.

About All Iron Ventures

How it all started

In 2009, Jon Uriarte and Ander Michelena founded Ticketbis, a secondary ticketing marketplace that they scale to 45+ countries in Europe, Asia and LatAm and ultimately sold to eBay in 2016 for €165Mn. It is one of the main success stories in the startup ecosystem in Spain to date.

Who we are

All Iron Ventures kicks off in late 2017. In a short period of time we have been able to build a VC with around €110Mn under management and more than 40 portfolio companies in several European countries, the U.S. and LatAm.

We mainly invest in the early stages of European companies that aspire to reshape the future of both consumers and enterprises through technology.

We have been and continue to be entrepreneurs. We know what it is to be a founder and empathize with the challenges our partner founders face. We put our resources and experience creating, scaling and selling companies at their disposal to help them take their projects to the next level.

If you are looking for funding and want to share your project with us, please fill out this form or get to anyone in the team through a mutual connection.

The story behind our name

Our name «All Iron» is intrinsically associated with the province of Biscay and with its capital, Bilbao, where we are headquartered.

Back in the late 19th century, British mining technicians arrived in Bilbao to work on its iron mines. When the purest iron ores were spotted, they were signaled as «All Iron», and miners would earn a bonus payment as a result. Thus, «alirón» (i.e. this newsletter’s name) as local miners would pronounce «All Iron», became a cry of joy for the workers. The term «alirón» eventually gave rise to a song – still widely used today – to celebrate the wins of Athletic Club, Bilbao’s leading soccer club, and one of Spain’s oldest and most victorious.
